The Incredible Shrinking Man

Is this the largest cat ever or the smallest man on earth? This is actually a still from the 1957 sci-fi classic The Incredible Shrinking Man. Exposed to a mysterious radiation cloud  our hero began to lose some serious weight, which at first may not seem to be a bad thing, but as you can see even a cute little kitty becomes a potential threat if you were to lose too much weight.
The feline star is Orangey who appeared in other films including  ”Rhubarb”, “Village of the Giants” and “This Island Earth.”

"In its flawless grace and superior self-sufficiency I have seen a symbol of the perfect beauty and bland impersonality of the universe itself, objectively considered, and in its air of silent mystery there resides for me all the wonder and fascination of the unknown."

Cats according to the Quran, Sunnah and Hadith

Islam teaches Muslims that, in relation to a cat:
* the cat should not be sold for money or other traded goods
* cats saliva is harmless unless the cat has “visible impurities” in the mouth
* that Muslims are free to live with cats but they must treat cats well, providing the cat with enough water and food and giving “roaming time” (a degree of freedom of movement)

A un gato
No son más silenciosos los espejos
ni más furtiva el alba aventurera;
eres, bajo la luna, esa pantera
que nos es dado divisar de lejos.
Por obra indescifrable de un decreto
divino, te buscamos vanamente;
tuya es la soledad, tuyo el secreto.
Tu lomo condesciende a la morosa
caricia de mi mano. Has admitido,
desde esa eternidad que ya es olvido,
el amor de la mano recelosa.
En otro tiempo estás. Eres el dueño
de un ámbito cerrado como un sueño.

Leonore Fleischer | The Cat's Pajamas

When God made the world, He chose to put animals in it, and decided to give each whatever it wanted. All the animals formed a long line before His throne, and the cat quietly went to the end of the line. To the elephant and the bear He gave strength, to the rabbit and the deer, swiftness; to the owl, the ability to see at night, to the birds and the butterflies, great beauty; to the fox, cunning; to the monkey, intelligence; to the dog, loyalty; to the lion, courage; to the otter, playfulness. And all these were things the animals begged of God. At last he came to the end of the line, and there sat the little cat, waiting patiently. "What will YOU have?" God asked the cat.
The cat shrugged modestly. "Oh, whatever scraps you have left over. I don't mind."
"But I'm God. I have everything left over."
"Then I'll have a little of everything, please."
And God gave a great shout of laughter at the cleverness of this small animal, and gave the cat everything she asked for, adding grace and elegance and, only for her, a gentle purr that would always attract humans and assure her a warm and comfortable home.
But he took away her false modesty.

The cat

The cat
licks its paw and
lies down in
the bookshelf nook
She
can lie in a
sphinx position
without moving for so
many hours
and then turn her head
to me and
rise and stretch
and turn
her back to me and
lick her paw again as if
no real time had passed
It hasn’t
and she is the spinx with
all the time in the world
in the desert of her time
The cat
knows where flies die
sees ghost in motes of air
and shadows in sunbeams
She hears
the music of the spheres and
the hum in the wires of houses
and the hum of the universe
in interstellar spaces
but
prefers domestic places
and the hum of the heater

Gato que brincas na rua

Gato que brincas na rua
como se fosse na cama,
invejo a sorte que é tua
porque nem sorte se chama.
Bom servo das leis fatais
que regem pedras e gentes,
que tens instintos gerais
e sentes só o que sentes.
És feliz porque és assim,
todo o nada que és, é teu.
Eu vejo-me e estou sem mim,
conheço-me e não sou eu.

Gato que juegas en la calle
como si fuese en la cama,
envidio la suerte que es tuya
porque ni suerte se llama.
Buen siervo de las leyes fatales
que rigen piedras y gentes,
que tienes instintos generales
y sientes sólo lo que sientes.
Eres feliz porque eres así,
toda la nada que eres, es tuya.
Me veo y estoy sin mí,
me conozco y no soy yo.
